VIDEO: The garden in April

“AU LAC DE BLARS”: a self-catering cottage for vacation rental -“gite”- with charm (“Art de Vivre” rating by the Midi-Pyrenees region).  Located right in the middle of the Parc Regional des Causses du Quercy (Lot - Midi-Pyrenees - France) this vacation accomodation is about 2 km away from the village of Sénaillac-Lauzès

The day I saw this rural cottage I immediately falled in love with it.  It was really in poor shape: leaking roof, falling walls, broken doors and windows, no running water.  Let's not forget the car and tractor wrecks.  And everything was lost in the middle of bushes.  But there was a "je ne sais quoi", a feeling of peacefulness, of natural quietness.  I am living abroad, and this could be my harbour in the region of France I come from.  We did a lot of renovation work.   And when I am not coming back there I open it to guests.  Let's be honest: it helps me pay part of the bills too  :-).
Today I am glad that so many of our visitors feel at home when they stay in the "gite" (self-catering cottage for vacaton rental in French).  Because this is what we focus our effort on.  My parents will use their best English to welcome you.

The property displays all the features of a typical 18^th century farm of that old region of France called Quercy:

- the cottage built in 2 stages as of the 18^th century

- the barn, built around 1900, and its beams structure typical of local buildings

- the spring (very rare in the dry Parc Regional des Causse du Quercy!!) replacing the traditional cistern 

- the small pond for the cattle, carved in the rock in the garden in front of the vacation rental

- the stable (converted into a storage area for bikes)

- the ruin of the oven used to cook bread for all the family

- the garden for growing the family vegetables, now converted to a plain garden

- the stone walls (without any cement) dividing the property into various enclosures

The self-catering vacation rental “Au Lac de Blars” and its surroundings in the Parc Regional des Causses du Quercy - Lot - France

The rural cottage “Au Lac de Blars” is in the middle of the Quercy and the Lot department, next to Dordogne and Perigord, in the south-west of France.  Located in the center of the Regional Park, between Cahors and Figeac, the two main cities of the department. It is in easy reach from Paris (5 hrs) either by the A20 motorways or by train.  You can also fly to Toulouse (150 km) or Brive (70 km).  

 

This charming and quiet cottage is facing south and sitted on its own private piece of land of about 4 acres.  The garden blends naturally with the surroundings and the regional park Parc Regional des Causses du Quercy

Dears sometimes come for a drink at the pond, or for a rest under the lilacs.  The rest of the garden is typical of the local vegetation: the “dry prairie” of very short and dry grass, the oaks, maple trees and other local species of trees.  At the limit of the property, cross the road hidden behind the row of trees and take the path to the larger pond called “Lac de Blars” which gave its name to the cottage.

 

You will find several guides for walks or bike rides in the self-catering cottage.  Plenty of opportunities to discover the rest of the Parc Regional des Causses du Quercy.

 

We wanted a comfortable and luxury holiday self-accomodation cottage with all modern amenities, yet respectful of the environment, the local architecture and using traditional building materials from the Quercy and the Lot:

- 50 m2 per floor, 2 floors.

- 1st floor: 2 bedrooms (2 single beds 2m X 0.9m in one, 1 double bed 2m x 1.6m and bed for baby in the other) and 1 single bed on the staircase landing. Wooden floor in chestnut tree, oak beams.

- ground floor: the original stone pavement has been kept in the living room.  Tiles in the kitchen/dining room area. Ceiling in wood and oak beams.

- for your comfort: WC separate from the bathroom. Washing machine, iron and board.  Baby chair.  Fully equipped kitchen: micro-wave, oven, cooker, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.  In the living room: TV set, video-DVD player, mini HIFI.  Bed linen, bathroom towels and kitchen linen, cleaning products, tourist tax, 100 kWh electricity and water included in the price.

- to minimize the environmental footprint: low consumption bulbs.  Wood stove burning local wood (40 € /m3). An electrical heating system provides extra warmth if needed.  The original fireplace can be used too.  Composter

  

 

2010 weekly rates for the « Lac de Blars », quiet charming self-catering gite in Quercy, Lot, France 

Rental period: Saturday 16h00 to Saturday 10h00 

High season - 570 € - 03 July to 28 August  ( NO AVAILABILITY )

Spring & Fall - 340 € - 03 April to 03 July, 28 August to 25 September, 23 October to 06 November ( the house is still free as of September 10th )

Other periods : 280 €

Charges: electricity 0.10 €/kWh (first 100 kWh free), wood for fireplace & stove 40 €/m3 (usual consumption in heating season is 1/3 to 2/3 m3), optional end of stay cleaning 35 €.  Guarantee deposit: 300 € (refunded at end of stay after exit check)

 

Check Availability on line, then come back to this website to Book on line through the Lot-Reservation agency website. Booking is per week (Semaine) and starts on Saturdays.  Make sure you enter first the Saturday of the beginning of the stay, then the number of weeks and the number of people staying before validating by clicking on "Rechercher".  Booking fees are 5 to 17 euros but free if you choose to have all the file processed using the web. Lot-Reservation will offer you the "Passeport pour le Lot", a Lot-Reservation exclusive booklet offering price reductions in many touristic sites worth 30 €/adult and 15 €/child.
